Story of how I ended up here… (part 1)
My path to Holistic Sexual - Reproductive Health Education
I’ve always had an insatiable drive to learn as much as I can about the body/mind/spirit.
In this learning journey, I’ve been struck by how society’s sexual repression and sexism gave us such a narrow and distorted view of our sexual/reproductive selves, leaving so much to question and uncover.
Most of us grew up with sex-ed that was limited, flawed, sex-negative, and body-negative.
We grew up learning about our bodies and sexuality without any discussion or modeling of how to communicate desires, boundaries, and how to practice negotiating consent.
I’ve always thought more open, honest, and accurate conversations about our sexual and reproductive selves were begging to be had.
Instead of fragmenting and compartmentalizing these parts of ourselves into “taboo” subjects, let’s keep broadening the conversation to be more holistic.
We need spaces to talk, share, and learn without repressive shame culture distorting our relationship to our own bodies and to each other.
We need spaces to cultivate a culture of appreciating and loving our unique bodies/beings in all their beautiful wholeness, complexity, challenges, and pleasures.
What was your experience with sex-ed growing up?
What do you wish you had learned?
